The
Southend Community-in-Harmony Partnership became a registered charity,
in its own right, in March 2008 after six successful years of awareness
building, campaigning and fund raising to help promote and create
an inclusive and harmonious community.
We
annually organise an open air event where diverse community groups
can come together and have fun celebrating everything that is valued
and worthwhile within the community of Southend. Click
here for details of our next event in June.
In
April 2009 we completed a research project profiling the needs of
the new ethnic minority communities and other socially disadvantaged
groups that live in our town, and how we can begin to meet those
needs. This
was done with an awarded granted from "Awards for All".
You can download our final report on "Missing
Communities" for the details of our research.
The
work is ongoing and we resumed in earnest in April 2010, thanks
to a furhter grant from "Faith in Action" and focused
on addressing some of the gaps we found. Recommendation
update produced March 2010 provides an update of where we were
in addressing the recommendations from that report.
Reports
on Faith Communities, African Communities and Bullwood Hall Prison
are now available to SCHP members on request.
Throughout the
year we organise smaller events to bring our community together.
Please look at our EVENTS
page to see what is currently being arranged.
Read our Story
So Far for more details about our charity and how you can get
involved. However, the aims of our Partnership are:
- to celebrate
the diversity, culture and heritage of the local community
- to promote
a greater understanding and tolerance within the community
- to break
down barriers of ignorance and misunderstanding and
- to encourage
and facilitate partnership working among community groups for
their mutual benefit
We
look forward to seeing you at one of our events!
